If you sent your own measurements instead of scanning, we'll still help you sort it out, but we can't guarantee the fit — hand measurements are hard to get right, and we have no way to check them.

Manufacturing faults are always covered, however you measured. Anything that fails or doesn't match the measurements we recorded, we replace free.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on where your dog's dewclaws sit and how sensitive they are.

We don't cut an opening for them, because a gap in the shell creates a weak spot. What we can do is adjust how high the boot sits so the top edge clears them.

Watch your dog the first few times they wear them. If there's any rubbing, a thin liner sock underneath usually solves it — just ask and we'll send some free.

Being straight with you: no dog boot brand can promise zero dewclaw contact, and neither can we.

Yes, and it's worth two minutes of your time before the first walk.

Short-coated dogs — staffies, boxers, greyhounds, whippets, dalmatians, vizslas, dobermans and similar — are more likely to get rubbing when boots are new. It's the same thing that happens to us with a new pair of shoes. The material hasn't softened yet, and a short coat means there's no hair cushioning the spot where the boot meets the leg.

It's normal, and it passes once the boots break in. But it's easier to prevent than to fix.

If your dog is short-coated, we'd suggest starting with liner socks. They go on underneath, they cost you nothing — just ask and we'll send them with your order — and they take the friction out of the first few weeks entirely.

Either way:

• Start with two or three short walks rather than one long one
• Check the leg just above the boot after each walk
• Any redness, put the socks on before the next walk

Is it rubbing, or are the boots too big? Put a boot on and try to slide a finger down inside the top opening. If your finger goes in easily, the boot is loose and sliding with every step — tell us and we'll remake it a size down, free. If it's snug, it's just break-in, and a sock will sort it.

If the skin is broken, take the boots off until it heals and have your vet take a look.

Rinse with warm water and a little mild soap. Let them air dry before the next walk.
